I have lunch at least once a week with a lady that is almost totally disabled. She has a BA degree in elementary education from New York University, she has a Master's Degree, from UCLA in Berkeley, and a PHD from Florida State. Her dead husband had a PhD in Philosophy from Boston College and was a Professor at a school in Arkansas.
She was looking to make a mark for her liberal education by helping poor people's kids get through elementary schools. She took the Principal's job at a school in Ark. with 600 students, 2/3 black and i/3 very poor white kids. She worked hard but the most difficult kids were the whites. All the kids were from poor parents, but by a large the majority of the Blacks were living in housing projects. Most of the white kids were living in tents, cars, vacant buildings or wherever. She would keep an eye on kids that weren't picked up or didn't know how to get home until Social Workers or the police gave them rides, usually 6:00 PM. She did that for 17 years
She did crazy things to get the kids to read books. She volunteered to kiss a pig on stage if the 600 kids would 10,000 books, and she did. The next year she agreed to eat lunch on the schools roof if the kids would do that, and she did. A wonderful lady that gave up a much more lucrative position so she could help those kids.
One day a 15 year old sixth grader ??? got pissed because his teacher told him to go to the Principal's office and he did and he head butted her through a double plate glass window. She went through two 22 hour surgeries and she no longer has a back bone, She has two tungsten bars running parallel with what was her back bone and connected by wires. Her life was ruined but her attacker was never punished.
She will vote in November... for Donald Trump.
