    GOP Operative Comes Clean

This guy saying admitting the stuff I've suspected for a long time. He got a lot of Republicans elected over the years too.

    https://www.politico.com/news/magazi...t-trump-397918

    Money quotes:

“Why does the Republican Party exist today? It exists to beat Democrats. That’s not a political party. That’s a cartel.”

And I like this one, because, well Ted Cruz. But the same line of argument could apply to Tom Cotton.

The party has basically joined the Red Guard and the Khmer Rouge, attacking higher education. And it’s never the peasants leading the charge. It’s the educated. These are the most phony people in the world. Ted Cruz. Here’s a guy that’s punched every establishment button there is to punch, and he’s attacking elites. Really! Your wife is at Goldman Sachs. You were born in Vancouver, dude.

At a personal level, yeah....he made a lot of money getting these guys elected only to grow a little bit of a conscience late in life, so....buy his book! Inclined to agree with you, with the caveat that he does explain his reasoning, and it's the sort of thing I've seen happen to the GOP really since the Gipper left the stage. It has been a gradual progression.

Did you read the book, or just excerpts or just read about it on a web site?

Click the link if you like. If your views are on a sound foundation then one online account of an interview with the author will do you no harm. I don't need to buy the book to read about that which I've perceived with my own senses over the decades. But it is interesting to have an insider admit to the game. If he was a forum member and had some balls then author would be telling you that the GOP is all one big lie.

I assume the place is full of Romney->Trump voters?

The guy is saying that he was peddling lies to people, that the modern GOP is based on a lie, the origins of which are in the Southern Politics of Newt Gingrich and Roger Stone and Lee Atwater. Atwater, to his credit, confessed before his death from brain cancer in 1991.

It's a question: what are your choices when someone says they lied to you? Saying "no you didn't" doesn't make a lot of sense, because they're the ones in the position to know. But then again, if invested in the lie, saying "gosh thanks" isn't in the cards either. It's a bad thing to learn that one's politics are based on an outright, deliberate lie. On the plus side, maybe the last rats to leave the ship get Special Loyal Rat Awards, if that's where someone wants to place their hope.
