Looting broke out in Minneapolis Wednesday night after a murder suspect shot himself as police moved in to arrest him, but misinformation spread

The suspect allegedly shot another man around 2pm earlier Wednesday
Officers found him in front of Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis around 6pm but as they moved to arrest him he procured a gun and killed himself

Rumors emerged that he was killed by officers, sparking unrest and looting
Mayor Jacob Frey ordered curfew and called in the National Guard

Gov. Tim Walz declared a peacetime emergency in Minneapolis and said he was mobilizing the Minnesota National Guard

More than a rumor was needed--the cowardice of local gov't in dealing with previous rioting allowed the mob to assume the cops wouldn't be allowed to interfere this time either.
