The Police Union's investigation is as official as mine. Cops are too lethal. This guy wasn't close to visibly trying to kill anyone, and if anything he was just trying to get away. So it's another Atlanta.

So best not to struggle, don't you think? You're a fool if you think there's ANYTHING "cruel and unusual" about getting shot in a fight with cops, esp. if there's a weapon involved--WHY DO YOU THINK THEY'RE ISSUED SIDEARMS?

This is an "in-between" case--if he'd been shot with the knife in his hand, facing the cops, there'd be NO question it was 100% justified. But shot in the back clouds the issue, although he refused to stop, & was running away in his car. The cop was close enough to grab hold of him, but he had ALREADY proved he was a better fighter than the cop--one of the side-effects of lowering physical requirements to make women eligible for the job (pussification is the technical term).

Carrying knives is pretty common. Redneck kids still bring them to school. If having a knife in the presence of law enforcement is a shooting offense, then millions are marked for death right now.

Yeah everyone says... don't resist. But there is a fight or flight reflex that kicks in. Everyone has it. Again, if having that reflex in you marks you for death, then we're all in trouble. Simply put, cops are too quick to shoot far more often then they are too slow to shoot, in the eyes of the public. And way too quick to draw.

Here's an idea: if cops want to train up like combat infantrymen, let's PT them like infantrymen too, go the whole hog. Also teach them knife tactics so they don't have to use sidearms. This is a high value prisoner, corporal, we need him alive and undamaged for interrogation. Don't shoot him. Remember, you're a soldier, and soldiers die. Better?
