There was a study done some time ago about the cost of incarcerating habitual criminals versus the cost of NOT incarcerating them. The damage habitual criminals do when they are on the streets is about three times what it costs to lock them up.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio of AZ claimed he could feed inmates for something like 38 cents a day. They grew some of what they ate and didn't eat steak.

This cost was just for food and not the overhead but cost could be reduced in prisons starting by turning the A/C's off. We didn't have them in school. Why do criminals have them?

Prison isn't a pleasant place but it's not suppose to be either. Making it less pleasant would save us money and discourage people from a life of crime.

I believe they do. I've spent a lot of time living under canvas -- and about as much completely in the open. Why should criminals have it any better?

Electrified barb wire should be common at all prisons and on top of all of our border walls. Extra large "bug zappers".
