This old ball of dirt is a messed up place, always has been and always will be. Bad stuff happens that "just happens" sometimes; there is no making everything safe for everyone.
      That is reality.

My middle grandson is Autistic, upper module. Liam's main project is keeping his younger brother out of trouble which is a handful. When I graduated college and job hunting I sub taught in the local grade school. I was lucky enough to be called into a class of 4th grader's many autistic. One took a shine to me and we had a grand time. Autistic people are in their own world not of their making. Some are higher function [mine] and can cope with society to some degree.
Togey, I hope this answers your question as my Liam is very precious to me!

Forget Chicago and other issues extraneous to this shooting. The police officer who shot a child in the back when he was told by the mother that he was unarmed, was so clearly out of control and lacking in any balance or judgement that even if he does not get criminally charged, should never be trusted with any weapon more dangerous than a nerf gun that shoots foam rubber darts.

I'm not sure I understand. Are you advocating "Guilty, even if proven innocent?"

                            So he did.

                            Alright then.

Years ago, got drafted into coaching a rec league soccer team for a season. Was in the wrong place at the wrong time. One of the kids on the team was home-schooled, autistic. I got the full explanation from the parents, what did, and did not work with this kid. They figure it out the hard way, and hoping the rest of the world, teachers etc. will listen.

My middle kid is a special ed teacher, middle school. Spent the last two years in the "little room" with the kids who couldn't work in the big classroom. It's the same thing....certain things work, certain things don't. Figure it out, compare notes. Yes my kid has been physically attacked, seen the room destroyed, had to solve the problem of protecting themselves and the other kids in the room, who have their own issues as well.

If we expect our teachers to make the right decision with autistic kids, then the same can be said for our cops, right? This kid in Utah was no Adam Lanza.

If Boggs reads this hopefully he understands that I am sympathetic to challenge of getting autistic kids dialed into the world. It's yet another one of those times where all of the adults have to be up to the job.
