I favor the electoral college and states running elections, by their own rules, within some limits that apply nationally. By compartmentalizing voting, it's harder for one party to tamper with it.

It has been pointed out that the POTUS election winner-take-all approach favored by all but 2 small states gas the effect of wiping out many votes. People say Texas is trending blue. If that happens, a bunch of Republican votes for President in Texas effectively have zero marginal value.

One thought is have all the states award electoral college delegates proportionally to their voting returns. But most states will not like that because a winner-take-all approach makes each state a bigger prize.
