Well being willingly identified as a token might torque some people off. But the article also explains why he soured on Trump. Or maybe you skipped that part. There are blacks who fondly remember the GOP as the party that ended slavery. That was a long time ago! Before the party was taken over by white southern Democrats.

Ray as you know I'm not a black voter so I don't know. But a guess.... forcefully denying that there is systemic racism has put Trump on the opposite page as blacks who feel they regularly experience it in their daily lives.

I run, my kids run, for exercise. I stay in the woods, in the mud, flies, etc., but my kids run in more urban areas. I never thought about it until someone pointed it out, but black people, if they run in the city, suburbs, have to find a track. Then people know they're exercising. If they run in the parkway, someone might call the cops. A woman running in a parkway, cops keep a friendly eye out. A black man, cops stop him. Who wants to stop in the middle of a run to show ID to a cop? No white people do, I can tell you that.
