This article says that for whatever gains he is making in the rural regions, he's losing in the suburbs.
I have inlaws scattered all over that state, from Rochester to Detroit Lakes, to Duluth. The western edge of the state near the Dakotas is certainly primed to respond to the kinds of buttons that Trump is pushing, but simply put, there's not enough people out there. The tax base is in the metropolitan areas, and it's a knowledge-based economy favoring higher education levels. There's also that old Nordic community-spirit ethos that resists the everybody-for-themselves attitude that is a hallmark of Trumpism. Successful conservatives up there own lake homes, and they don't want invasive aquatic species ruining their lakes, so they support fairly intrusive inspections at boat launches.
The voting hasn't happened yet but we will know what the candidates think of Minnesota by the number of visits that occur between now and election day.

Victoria Delgrande, an 85-year-old in St. Louis County in northern Minnesota, said she had voted for Mr. Trump in 2016 but deeply regretted that decision. Ms. Delgrande said she would vote for Mr. Biden in November.
