I tell you what....a real trial in the Senate, with evidence, requiring the administration to present a defense, would scare the piss out of a lot of Republicans who know Trump is dirty.

In the event, the impeachment did its job, which was to burn through the cadre of hacks whose job it was to try to smear Biden. More broadly, Pelosi had to give cover to all of the candidates, lest Trump take them out one by one with bogus smears orchestrated by Barr and Pompeo.
