NYPD officers ordered to wear masks

NYPD officers ordered to wear masks as many have not been wearing them...

A memorial service for the 46 NYPD officers who died of coronavirus will be held at St. Patrick's Cathedral on Monday.

NYPD officers will face 'disciplinary action' for flouting New York’s mask mandate after Gov. Andrew Cuomo and residents launched complaints

NYPD officers will face 'disciplinary action' if they don't wear proper face masks
Specifics regarding what kind of penalties have not been disclosed

A memo was sent out to NYPD officers on Friday reiterating the rule and potential penalties

Masks work. They reduce the amount of virus the infected (possibly asymptomatic) person puts in the air, and give the virus one more place to get stuck on the outside of the face of an uninfected person. Beyond that, employees on the job should expect to follow their employer's instructions.

Ray can't read this article, but if he did, he would read that Covid-19 has killed more cops in 2020 than all other causes *PUT TOGETHER*

Think about that White House party for the judge last Saturday. Lots of screening, everyone who was there felt fine. They (incorrectly) assumed that no disease had penetrated the bubble. They were wrong.

If 46 NYPD officers died of COVID then I suggest that they not only need masks, they need N95 masks. The masks that most people wear are designed to stop droplets of spit from travelling from the wearer to someone else. i.e they are there to protect other people. All well and good, but people who are in continuous contact with others at work need the N95 type because they not only protect others, they protect the wearer from incoming germs. That is why medical people use them. This is a case where the police unions should be fighting for the safety of their members and demanding N95s

Cop unions are aligned with the Trump administration, which says that's all a hoax and N95s are no big deal.

I know many NYS cops--State Troopers, County Deputies, prison guards, because they shoot at my club's range. They can't hate the MF any more than they already do.

PS--Even knowing they will face retaliation from the State Dictator, all the local police unions, state & local, have put their careers in jeopardy by appearing in a TV ad endorsing our Repub Congresswoman Elise Stephanic, challenged by a Dem who's never held ANY job except political appointments by the State Dictator.

The only "masks" proven to be effective against a virus are N95 rated masks and PAPR hoods. ALL THIS MASK WEARING BULLCRAP IS JUST THAT, BULLCRAP.

I was an RN for 20 years, and a simple fase mask has never been effective against a virus.

Was at Home Depot yesterdat, they had a bunch of masks for sale, the psper Chicom made ones everywhere. In the small print on the side....."Not For Medical Use."
Enfield, everything else is just a rifle. Unless it's a Garand.

Long pig, it's what's for Dinner!

              WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG

How does someone get sick? By breathing an infected person's spew.

1/3 of infected people have no symptoms.

Even a lousy mask knocks down the distance that someone's spew can travel.

So what option is there but to have everyone mask up and have people keep their distance?

It's a simple concept, DBTA--don't be the asshole. Don't be the guy who is unwittingly spewing virus particles unchecked into air that other people have to breathe.

N95....if properly fitting, prevent 95% of the virus-sized particles from being inhaled. Would be great if we had more of those, no doubt, for people willing to wear them. Too bad the Trump Administration couldn't go all-in on mass production of those! But being a nurse in a treatment room and a shopper at a big box store, these are two different things.

We've been over this before. Defense Production Act give the President authority to mobilize industry without sitting back and hoping market forces do it in the fullness of time. Presidents use it but Trump has shown a light touch with it on PPE. Which is why to make protective masks, we have to buy 3M furnace filters, cut the MERV13 material out, and sew it in ourselves. Because we have no hope of getting good med grade N95s.

If that's the simple concept you follow, WHY DON'T YOU LEAVE THIS FORUM? DBTA where you aren't wanted.

                      Back at you?

It's one thing to bicker in an internet forum as a form of entertainment. Quite another to carelessly infect other people.

The whole "personal responsibility" concept pre-supposes that people will freely do the right thing. But what if they don't? Imagine an army, or a navy, where the soldiers and sailors are on the honor system to stand watch in the middle of the night, when most of the time nothing happens. Most of the time. Covid is transmissible before people know they are sick. The only way to defeat that is for everyone to change their behavior. Period. Masks to reduce the range (and amount) of viral spew, distancing to reduce its chance of scoring a hit. Everyone does their part. Damn, that seems so easy to understand doesn't it?
