Family Sues After Child Suspended For Visible BB Gun In Online Class

Zero tolerance = zero brains! as one poster said...

This case arises from egregious government overreach, complete lack of common sense to prevail and correct the glaring failures of local government officials to comply with the law,” the suit said.

“The result is a terrifying intrusion into a family’s home and a bureaucratic nightmare that unites the Attorney General, ACLU, and the NRA in agreement that the parents and child’s statutory and constitutional rights have been violated,” it continued.

The smart move would have been to tell the kid to move the gun out of camera range.

THe thing is, if the camera is on, then other kids can see who is talking, and see the gun, which they may not know is a BB gun. So the school is on the hook for that. But overreacting did not make things better for sure.

Just wonder on how many kids never saw a BB gun before?

So what? School can require all guns removed from house while kid is on computer?

Next, they'll ban political slogans and signs -- but only Republican political slogans and signs.

Now you're overreacting....just get the BB gun out of camera view. It was an accident that no one should compound with deliberate stupidity.

Explain why. Is it illegal for the kid to have one? Should the kid, or anybody, have to change the way he lives in order to do his schoolwork in his own home? That's the coward's way. It's good, however, that this family has had their eyes opened to the school's program of anti-gun indoctrination.

Public schools don't get to choose their students, or their parents. In this remote learning context, the bedroom becomes part of the classroom. If the kid had a "F*CK ALL REPUBLICANS" sign up where the camera could see it, he'd be asked to remove it. Same goes for the gun. It was an accident that it was parked there. Suspending the kid, arguing that the gun should stay RIGHT WHERE IT IS are both overreactions. If these are the loudest voices in the discussion then no wonder nothing ever gets done.

Only if some Republican objected. But is an obscene word the equivalent of having a product legally sold & owned on view?

Are kids in this school allowed to wear BLM T-shirts? I'll bet the answer is YES! But that's "personal choice." What about the many schools that have hoisted BLM flags on their flagpoles? Do students who object get to take it down?

The school overreacted to the presence of the BB gun in the kid's web cam.

                        NO! You shouldn't have to.

If one of his parents had been seen smoking a joint, there'd have been no objection from the school.

                              Like the school principal did?
