    Burning the American Flag ....

    Burning the American Flag ....

What could cause more ire in an American than that? The desecration of our national banner brings forth a feeling we should all respond to... and I'm responding now .

Whatever you feel about my origins of birth or my political beliefs you best take note ....
I am an American, I did serve some time in the U.S. Military under that very flag and hold a passport of The United States of America ....

and I take umbrage over what I've just seen .

My little town is now inundated with little road side Trump Shops selling all the needs of politically vociferous people . And that is a good thing . There are pickup trucks parading endlessly all over town with large Trump flags expressing their beliefs flapping in the breeze. Again , this is America and that's a good thing.

Today however I witnessed American flags with the picture of Donald Trump embossed over them. His image taking over a full 40 % our Red, White and Blue . My thoughts on Trump notwithstanding I find it disrespectful to our flag to have it desecrated so.

I'd be saying the same thing four years ago if it was Obama's picture on our flag .... and so would you .

of that I have no doubt

p.s. those of you who wear shorts and other clothing made entirely out of my flag ... well FU too

I remember driving on vacation in an early age (2019, before Covid, seems like forever ago), and passing a small lake. There was a guy fishing, in a small boat, wearing a sleeveless shirt, in the American flag motif. Wondered the same thing. Will that shirt turn into an oily shop rag?

The American flag should never have a picture of a person on it. PERIOD!

              So these....

Kudos to Sandpebble for finding a point of common agreement.

These don't plaster the image on the front, but put something behind it. Still would prefer people leave the flag alone, although it's hard.

These are wrong for the same reason as the first.

Google the U.S. Flag Code outlines the flag ettiquite, a d speciffically says it is not to be used as clothing. I'd.loke to see Trump put some teeth on the code along with the penalty he wants for burning the flag. It is not free speech, it is desicration of our national symbol.

I think on balance that those who object to clothing made from a flag are correct but I suspect that the people who are wearing such clothing mean it as a public sign of their patriotism and do not view it as an act of disrespect.

It's actually a British thing -- they started wearing garments made from the Union Jack. Years ago, there was a female tennis player who had the stars and stripes on her shorts -- and she got a lot of flack. The problem, though, was the flag was centered. When she shifted it to one buttock, the complaints stopped.

In any case, I feel no one should wear the flag -- except to cover his casket.

I don't care to see old glory with anyone's picture on her or even a blue stripe. I'm honored to have lived in places where the car dealers have those really large flag poles and fly our colors daily. I salute her as I drive by and seeing her waving in a breeze puts a smile on my face and at times gives me goose bumps.

When you pass the flag it isn't necessary to salute it, but when the flag passes you, outdoors, like in a parade, you are supposed to salute it. I was in the military foy 21 years, and am glad veterans can now salute the flag, rsther than holding their jand over their heart

                          +1 on goosebumps.

Dogtag and Sandpebble and Togey(if he really is from Haiti) are as American as you can get. Who doesn't like an argument? Togor can argue as good as it gets. They know about America.

Pebbles was brought here as a 6 year old and had a rough time of that per his own information. The inner child is still hurting and resentful of America, hence the living in Australia for some time and his "plantation" in Central America. Being in the Navy didn't satisfy his inner need so Pebbles continues to wonder to feed the hole in his being. Saw too many try to fill the emptiness with drugs/sex and wandering the world.
Togey knows that he will have to return to Haiti and this is upsetting him greatly so Togey has built this wall around himself as insulation against his future.
Actually both are to be pitied stuck between two worlds not sure of either.
