Different question -- I never said governments do not get money from businesses. I said that the CONSUMER is the one who pays. The business only collects the taxes and passes it on to the government.ok,
so,
I sell you a widget,
here in central VA, Sales Tax is 6%, so I charge you 6% and pay that to the state,
if my business shows enough income, I have to pay income taxes, to the feds and state,
and I have to pay income taxes on any money I make,
so,,
restating the question, how much in tax is paid to China by companies doing business in China, AND/OR by the folks working there, and the folks that own the company,
IOW,
what is the cost in $$$ to do business in China
Those who cheer for more taxes on businesses are actually cheering for more taxes on themselves. With a sales tax, the consumer gets the double whammy -- he pays more sales tax on a product that costs more because of taxes.Comment

There's been lots of studies on how taxes affect revenue streams, and to nobody's surprise--hang on maybe speaking too soon there--it's a good bit more complicated than Perfesser Vernon would like to believe. Who is astonished to learn that?
As it happens, Trump gave us two really useful natural experiments to observe.
One is the tax increases of tariffs, the other is the reducing of corporate tax rates. Rule changes that affected the flow of money through organizations. It's out there for people to read, if they really care to & have the brain cells for it.
Oh and look at how the Trump bags of money (ie stimulus deposits) have been treated differently by different people. Why would people think that tax bill changes wouldn't similarly have a variety of responses.
If baby boomers cared about red ink then we would have noticed by now. Trump of course is a first-wave boomer, and a spendthrift's spendthrift.Last edited by togor; 10-21-2020, 05:24.Comment
