That's a contrarian view.
But the problem with being a contrarian is that you get stuck defending the leftover bad ideas that have failed to persuade a majority in the field. No wonder they tend to be cranky.
Sometimes they turn out to be right, but usually not. A regime dedicated to blanket contrarianism on any subject of complexity is going to both have and make problems.
Case in point....will the Iran and North Korea situations for Biden be better or worse than 2016? Both regimes still stand, and their A-bomb programs have advanced. Trump tried contrarian approaches, a hard line with the Persians, a soft line with the NORKs, and what does he have to show for it?Last edited by togor; 11-16-2020, 07:51.Comment

I like good roads, parks, libraries, national defense.
I do not like welfare programs that subsidize promiscuity and irresponsibility, people with drinking and drug habits being declared "disabled", tacit encouragement of illegal immigration, schools that are on the one hand leftist indoctrination centers and on the other daycare centers for lazy and selfish parents.Comment

Many valid points,I like good roads, parks, libraries, national defense.
I do not like welfare programs that subsidize promiscuity and irresponsibility, people with drinking and drug habits being declared "disabled", tacit encouragement of illegal immigration, schools that are on the one hand leftist indoctrination centers and on the other daycare centers for lazy and selfish parents.
But many of them do cut across political boundaries, as you must surely know.
It's often the blue collar, red-voting parents who show the least interest in their child's academic progress, as treating school like a party "didn't hurt them none".Last edited by togor; 11-16-2020, 11:25.Comment

Ask teachers, and they'll tell you.
If they're super conservative and hard core on schoolwork these days, probably home schooled.
By-and-large the whole get-ahead-through-education concept of a meritocracy is predominantly a liberal notion these days. Many say they've taken it too far and I agree.
The Clintonian "anyone who wants to go to college should go" crap was a huge disservice to the country, coming as it did with trade policies that exported blue collar jobs overseas to unregulated and cheap labor markets.
As Trump is a disaster for the GOP, so was Bill Clinton for the Democrats.Comment
