$200 in 1934 comes out to $3822 in 2019.
So a $200 tax now comes out to about $10 in 1934 dollars.
Compared to the cost of the firearm, or ammo, by no means disqualifying.
It's not about the money.Comment

I was agreeing with you,
the money is pennies to the .gov,, they piss more away on frivolous stuff than they would make on the Tax stamp,
it's about restricting an item, so only those with $$$ can afford it,
that is the way it was in 1934,Comment

What I am saying is that they could require listing of items in 2021 with a tax of $0 and the reaction would be the same. A $200 one time fee in against the backdrop of current high prices is not going to drive decisions one way or the other.Comment

actually, it will,
you just took the basic AR from $600ish to $800ish,
and mags from $10-12 tp $210+
and the prices are not going to stay high for long, history show that,
folks that will be hurt by this are the lower income folks that may want of already have one,
with the AR being one of the most plentiful rifles around and the number of them going up exponentially in the past few years (after record low prices) it will significantly impact a lot of folks,
and a lot will just park them in a closet an maybe register only 1 or 2Comment

As a practical matter,
it is one less can of ammo.
Someone motivated enough to buy ammo by the can isn't going to be deterred,
and it's a safe bet that they really really really don't want to be on an electronic list.
That's what I mean when I say the tax could be $0 and the reaction would be the same.Comment

imagine the number of Form 4's or Form 1's that would show up with the same Cage Code on them,,,, (some AR mags have those) or the Beretta 92 mags with a NSN number,,,
or
hurr durr, I'ma gonna register my M1A mags,, and they all have the same number,, BR-WComment
