Anyone Know Why we Send Egypt $1.4B A Year?

Is it to not cause trouble with Israel or turn a bunch of islamists loose? If so, that sounds like extortion money. True, Trump calls El-Sisi his "favorite dictator", but probably that's just his dry wit showing.

Maybe Egypt and Israel both are taking us for a ride. At least Israel finds ways to be helpful in return. With Egypt we get nothing.

Suppression of the Islamic Brotherhood is nothing? Though "human rights activists" like Togor wring their despicable crybaby hands, the Islamic Brotherhood (born in Egypt, not Saudi) was the direct progenitor of Al Qaeda & ISIS. When that miserable coward Obammy deserted our true friend Mubarak, the Islamic Brotherhood seized control of Egypt, & would STILL be supporting Islamic terrorists is not for the so-called "dictator."

I have a feeling that may be tied up in aid of a non-monetary or support role?

If you're saying they're only doing it if we pay then that's extortion. If nothing else we ought to get a chance to renegotiate. When dealing with dictatorships I like Trump's transactional approach and think we need more of it. Or maybe we let the Israelis and Saudis pay for Egypt now that they're pals.

Yes, he'd be a good one to explain why his soul-brother Obammy stabbed our reliable ally Mubarak in the back--the man who'd kept the radicals under control for 20 yrs.

Mubarek was going to die eventually. If it comes down to just the one guy, a Mohammad Reza Pahlavi for example, then it isn't much of a relationship. Everything I've heard says Egypt is running a protection racket on our dime.

Better than the situation in Afghan & Iraq. How many trillions did the Bush Family pour down those ratholes?

Mubarak could have picked a successor with the Army's backing. Democracy is corrupt in THIS country, imposing it on a raghead population is asking for chaos & civil war--exactly what happened.

Amen. It was shut down for about 8 years, and the consequences to many nations were severe.

Fair point but I question how our price gets fixed at $1.4B. I'd also like to know who else is paying. The Suez Canal is primarily a European/Asian trade route.

I can't figure that as I don't have that many fingers and toes.
