Dramatic rescue of injured hiker who got trapped under a boulder

Phone battery had only 6% remaining!...

Dramatic rescue of injured hiker who got trapped under a boulder for 12 HOURS after he slipped in the California mountains - and managed to call for help after cutting his pants open with a pen knife to grab his phone

Hiker Jason Koch, 48, was rescued early Tuesday after he slipped and got trapped under a massive falling boulder for 12 excruciating hours he went for a hike in the heavily wooded mountains of Mount St. Helena near Calistoga, California on November 23 when he slipped and got stuck

The rock pinned his backpack and right arm to the ground for hours and tried for hours to free himself and reached for his pen knife to cut his pants open to reach into the pocket and get his phone

After grabbing his phone he forced off his helmet and dug his way out from beneath the rock and called for help with just six percent battery on his phone

California Highway Patrol received the call at 2.20am Tuesday located him based of his GPS location and using thermal cameras

Seriously, mountains with cell towers. It seems wrong. Mountains are better when you have to figure it out yourself. In his case, mind his footing.

6%, and hiking? you would think he had a backup battery in that backpack,

probably got arrested for disturbing nature and carrying a pocket knife in Cali too

Remember the guy in Utah who had a big boulder shift and pinned his hand. After a few days the hand started to rot so he used his dull pocket knife(he had been carving on the boulder) to cut his hand off at the wrist.

He hiked out on his own and flagged down a car. I believe they were German tourists. That's a great story to tell the folks back home.
