Large scale drug busts at colleges

Twenty-one students from fraternities at University of North Carolina and Duke are arrested for running 'large scale drug operation' which involved shipping 'more than $1.5m of cocaine and marijuana from California then selling it on campus'

Twenty-one people have been arrested since July as part of the operation
They range in age from 22 and 35 and are all based in North Carolina
Together, they sold in excess of $1.5million of cocaine and marijuana, according to prosecutors

The suspects include former and current students of Duke and UNC Chapel Hill
Prosecutors say they are 'hardened drug dealers' and that it goes further than 'someone taking a puff of a joint at a frat house'

Glad they have been caught. Hopefully all of them will be caught. All that being said, it's sad. Just sad. Not much money for them. Certainly not much money for what it is going to cost them in legal penalties, lost personal rights, etc. It hurts them for the rest of their lives. And that does not even begin to take into account the hurt it does to parents, family and others whose trust they have betrayed. Sincerely. bruce.

Locally the college students get 1-3 caught in a major bust dealing. Surprisingly females are the majority caught and prosecuted. They get a trip of several years to the big house as a result of their crime. Possession in small quantities usually get probation or some type of supervised life.

You'd think people in colleges would be smart enough to stay away from drugs -- and especially not deal in them. Apparently not, though.

It's the American theme of, "I am smarter then the cops or It can't happen to me!" Locally I have wondered how people can get admitted who can't cross the street safely. Many come from well heeled families who were allowed to run wild and try and do the same here.
Unfortunately as we watch this is playing our in our nation now and it is costing many all that they have. 2021 will be most interesting and sad at the same time for many. Unfortunately I feel that this year is the one without Christmas for many.
