Any possibility of just cleaning up the whole site. In My Opinion there are way to many subjects. Japanese rifles, shotguns, optics, funny stories about the army, stolen firearms... it go on. I sure like M1917's but there have been two posts there this year. I don't like change either.
Since it's a new year and being revamped

When I first joined this site in 1982, it was very active in all forums because it was anout the vintage and surplus military arms, thier care and feeding. The firing line forum really gpt busy in June and July getting ready for Perry. All the other forums were active with people gettin CMP M1s, 03s, parts and ammo. Dick and Gunny Fishet answered questions and they and other experienced folks created Lanes Tips which answered most of the reoccuring questions. The membership was skewed toward the older, veteran shooters who had been exposed to these military arms and had some experience and stories.
Now, Dick is gone, Gunny seems to have left us for muzzloading, Hard Dog, Big John and so many others have taken the "brain trust" and left. Look at the community member list and see the last posted dates.
No one has better coverage of WW1 and WW2 weapons unless the Mil Surps site is considered as augmenting. Many of the forums have thier own sites or multiple sited dedicated just to one subject, the smallbore thread comes to mind. There is great interest in very long range shooting, which is an esoteric discipline for the rich. The M16 forum has many dedicated sites more active than here.
I think us old vets that are still here may not be enough to keep this forum alive. New/used wooden warriors are more rare and cost more to acquire than an M16 type or clone to make or buy.
Now, add to that the most active forum, the 2nd A, and all the crap there... new potential members may be turned off and move on.
When new people "drive by" and click on new posts, what do they get....directed to the 2nd A garbage. Maybe the Sys Admin and the mods can block the 2nd A from automatacally being viewed in new posts. Maybe make 2nd A be so it can only be accessed by request/clicking on it.Comment

Apart from your concern about the nature of the specific forums, there is the broader issue of participants being rude to one another. Two years ago, I suggested that we start the new year with a commitment to try to be more polite. My sense was that most participants felt that this would be a good thing to do. That lasted until about Jan 5. Perhaps we should try again. Its OK to strongly argue against a technical or political point being made but the counter-arguments should be fact based and not constitute personal insults. (OK. I guess I am naive but its worth a try)Comment

I'll dig out my Martini to make sure the cases chamber.
I had trouble with some lathe turned cases for my Rolling Block.
Hopefully they'll be OK. We'll see.Comment
