        The statues are about arguing about the past not changing it. Subtle difference there.

          It seems to me that in his book "1984" George Orwell stated that "He who controls the present, controls the past". He was really talking about Stalin and the Communists but it seems to also be applicable to the "woke" lefties who want to re-write history

              Maybe these vandals think that by tearing down the statues it will
              somehow make what they represent to have not happened.
              Otherwise, what exactly would be gained - unless just maybe
              they enjoy smashing things.
