When he was elected VP, LBJ wanted to remain a part of the Democratic Caucus, he was told "This caucus is not open to former senators!" That drew from him a rude response. If Harris remains a sub rosa member of that caucus it raises some serious questions about separation of powers.

Article 1 Section 3 of the Constitution states that the Vice President is the President of the Senate though he/she is not a member. Constitutionally the only time the Vice President can actually vote is to break a tie, pretty much the only time the Veep shows up for the job except for the State of the Union Address. However....because of this oddity when the Senate is split 50-50 the Vice President's role tips the balance to his/her side and puts her party in the thinnest of majorities. this rule has benefited the Republicans in the past also.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. this evening (January 7, 2021), United States Capitol Police Officer Brian D. Sicknick passed away due to injuries sustained while on-duty.

Officer Sicknick was responding to the riots on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol and was injured while physically engaging with protesters. He returned to his division office and collapsed. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Good question. I understand the Capitol is usually open with security at the doors to handle the occasional wandering nut. I think the guys at the doors were just overwhelmed; some demonstrators/rioters were breaking windows to get in. I saw and article today that confirmed my original thought may have been correct in that the Capitol Police and the D.C. Police had had so little trouble with right wing demonstrators for so long they psychologically weren't prepared.

If you're in charge of security it's always on you though which is why the Sergeants at Arms of the House and Senate along with the Capitol Police Chief are all looking for new jobs.

Johnson was always trying to work the system. There was a Supreme Court Justice named Abe Fortas that Johnson was tight with and Fortas used to go to the white house and brief him on what was what with the court including stuff he wasn't supposed to be talking about. Johnson put him up for Chief Justice and he was voted down for suspicion of corruption including being too chummy with the Pres. Later charges of monetary corruption were found that were serious enough that old Abe was given the choice of stepping down or being impeached. Fortas retired.
