On a whim, I searched for the demographics of BLM protest groups and found that four searches indicated that these groups were either predominantly white or over 85% white. Thus the ramblings of the multiple letter news agencies stating racial disparities in the responses in June and and Wednesday were not accurate (what is new).

Numbers are funny things. On a whim, I searched for the demographics of BLM protest groups and found that four searches indicated that these groups were either predominantly white or over 85% white. Say there was 1 black person per 1000 at the MAGA Capitol rally, and
150 black people per 1000 at a BLM rally.
One could say that in both cases, the crowds were overwhelmingly not black.
One could also say that the BLM rallies had 150X (that's 15,000%) more blacks per 1000 people than the MAGA Capitol rally.
It may also be about the theme.
The way I see it, there was an overreaction in the summer, and an overcorrection to it this time. And possibly politics played a roll since it was a pro-Trump political rally and Trump signs off on security on Federal property. (Remember the DC mayor planned differently for the city.)
But oscillations are a normal part of calibration. If you have too much of a thing to start with, it's common for the next step to have too little of it. People learn as they go.Last edited by togor; 01-08-2021, 07:30.Comment
