the press has always been a bit 'promotional'

Remember the Maine , as an example,

but when you have over 4 years of beating down the elected President, that followed 8 yrs of promoting glory,

best thing the media could do would to go back to actually reporting the news, not commenting, not editorializing, no being pundits, but actual news reporters,

now, on the best of days, the MSM is maybe a step up from the Enquirer,

There's no question certain outlets sensationalize things to suit a target audience. CNN and Fox, among those web sites.

But media companies are trying to make money. And that means ratings, clicks, targeting a demographic. As an engineer trust me I know a thing or two about feedback loops and resonance and unstable oscillations. Media that amplifies emotional topics to generate ratings puts the short term ahead of the long term.

The NewsMax guy admits he's just selling a hot product now. Fox has the news division, that tries to trade in facts, and the opinion people, who traffic in feelings. Of late, people don't even like Fox's facts so they flee to OAN and NewsMax because over there people tell them what they want to hear. How is any of that the fault of the libs?

If I think of politics as gun collecting....

The newbie comes in, buys a clever fake German sniper on GB at the Buy Now price. He's happy for awhile, maybe forever, unless he starts to learn what he really has. Then he's not happy, and sometimes he's mad at whomever it is who tells him the truth.

Fool and their money...it's still true.

Before you buy guns, buy books.

Buy the gun, not the story

Trump came in, metaphorically speaking, with this stash of amazing guns at amazing prices, guns of a quality and quantity that nobody has ever seen before, so he tells us all.

Some signed up to be resellers, making a nice profit. And millions bought from them.

But there were always warnings, that he's a humper, and if ever there was anyone who needed a hard look before putting down the money, it was him.

Not really the fault of the doubters, liberal or conservative, that things got this far.

But yeah, media companies all over profited from the activity he generated, on both sides.

There's an important difference though: Trump sold a lot of subscriptions to the NYT or WaPo, but they'd see him go away even if it cost them money. At OAN, NewsMax, he's the product.
