    Crazy "Buy American" Story

A Fox News segment on Monday warned that President Joe Biden will "upset" China by rolling out a "Buy American" campaign. "Could Joe Biden's 'Buy America' initiative actually hurt our relationship with key trading partners?" Fox News host Steve Doocy asked while teasing the segment. Co-host Ai...

Biden wants to increase the amount of American manufacturing that goes into Federal Government purchases. This is something that Peter Navarro was pushing unsuccessfully in the previous administration.

The Fox people worry out loud that this could upset trading partners, include China. Crazy, huh?

BTW I can tell you from first hand knowledge that in other parts of the world, government purchases go to domestic suppliers. America is a supplier of "last resort" for many, many things. I wonder if Fox knows that? Maybe post-Trump they're returning to their pro-WTO roots?

Also it wasn't American workers who voted to close their plants and have the production sent to Asia. It was management, chasing a better stock price and/or bigger bonuses.

This is one area where I thought Trump in his clumsy way was onto something, and I'll be curious to see how effective the new team is at exploiting the opening he created.

Americans aren't willing to pay the cost for goods produced in the US along with business's looking at profits. Even with the tariffs placed on China by Trump the shrewd Chinese moved production to other countries run by Chinese managers with host nation workers. I'm in the furniture business and the plants the Chinese have built are state of the art. I don't think we could do that here anymore with the costs of startup and regulations. I don't see Biden making this any easier.

      a better written article here

      and a hiccup

But Monday's order will likely take 45 days or longer to make its way through the federal bureaucracy, during which time wrangling with Congress could produce a new aid package. That would be a follow-up to the roughly $4 trillion previously approved to tackle the economic and medical fallout from the coronavirus.

I get what you are saying, but I believe a lot of people are willing to try to source domestically, if given a chance. You're right to point out that the price difference is important, that the "satisfaction" that comes with buying American-made comes with a max $ amount people are willing to pay.

The U.S. has made it too easy to just sit at the house and wait on the government check. No one interested in American jobs that pay no more than sitting on their ass and dealing a little occasional dope. The local Home Depot has a terrible time finding anyone that wants to work, and then most can't pass the drug test. Where would the workers come from for all these new jobs?

when I was in the hiring my help biz,, you did not hire city folk if country folk were available,

city folk had too many issues, country folks usually wanted to work,

One problem is, if a business does NOT drug test, and there is an accident due to an employee being on drugs, the business can be sued.

They'll be a lot shallower if they lose a lawsuit.
