I remember being vaccinated as a kid.
Polio with those cartridge guns. Get in line. March through for the shot. Got mine in a trailer out front of the local YMCA..
Smallpox with that danged scab and we couldn't go swimming.
TB testing and all those stained sugar cubes they gave us.
Took a long time to get those three under control even with the mass vaccines and treatments.

Covid isn't going away anytime soon. So long as it has time, it has time to mutate and vaccine boosters will be needed for that.

I was in kindergarten or 1st grade when we were rounded up and lined up inside (we had a saucer shaped section of school for K and 1sr, with an indoor open area for rainy days)
the shot us all with some kind of gun that looked like a Star Trek Phaser, I don't remember it hurting much,

      did get a sugar cube,
and the TB tests every year,

seem to recall that for a while it was at least one shot, sometimes more, every time I went in for a physical

At Fort Polk, LA in '62 we were all lined up, shirtless at the entrance to a clinic -- an old WWII wooden building. As guys started going in, you could hear the BLAP! BLAP! of the injection guns. After a while, the first guys through came out the back door and walked around to the front, with blood dripping off their fingers.

Some of the kids still in line fainted!

I never had a problem with the "air guns" at Polk. However, if you flinched you would get a really bad cut and it did happen with some frequency, never happened to me but I sure saw it enough.

I had the exact same experience at Ft Leonard Wood in 1966. First day of basic and I was on KP. They put all the KP's in front of the line so we could get back to work. I think we got three shots in each arm. I went out the end of the building and cut through the line to go back to the mess hall, blood dripping from my fingers. It was a hot July day and guys started passing out when they saw the blood. The thought crossed my mind "damn, I might have to go to war with these pussies".

back to how long it will last. The new case rate in Texas is dropping fast right now, encouraging since its winter. Hospitalizations are also down but not as much. The death rate, always a "lagging indicator" So while I think it will still be two years total time I hope the worst is coming to an end.

One of the things that really scares me, already mentioned, is inflation. The debt of the United States, especially after the trilions spent on the plague may never be paid of and will inevitably, at some point, result in serious inflation as the government has to live more and more on printing vast amounts of paper money. Mexico is a country constantly plagued by cycles of inflation followed by hyper inflation. Our friends in Mexico have a solution: your savings is your stuff, when you get money spend it, it will buy less tomorrow. That is a truly frightening and very possible scenario.

Art is very correct with his statement and it is frightening to one and all. This train has already left the station and is picking up speed on the path to financial oblivion for America. What is truly sad are the ones who are in charge of the engine which powers this passenger train.

Lopez-Obrador, the president of Mexico, in addition to being a hard core socialist, is a certifiable nut. He has not only downplayed the covid pandemic but has prohibited vaccination in Mexico because he says he doesn't want Mexicans to be "guinea pigs." Our friends in Mexico are desperate to be vaccinated but see no path forward for them on this. In addition the "Biden plan" does not call for testing people coming across the southern border so anything we in much of the southwest is going to be pretty much for naught.

I find it interesting Art that you point out a leader of another country who " downplayed " the covid while here in the United States half of us were convinced it would disappear on election day .

In fact there are still some who claim it a hoax to harm Trump .... hmmph .

I maintain 11 "over 55 " condo buildings in Florida . There were a few cases of covid among them this year but suddenly one of those buildings has developed 5 over the past two weeks .

One of them just died... he tested positive and a week later was in the hospital with breathing problems ... and died at the age of 64. His name was Dan .

Like the Mexican leader our "past" leader downplayed the covid as well.... and also a certifiable nut.

Short list of people in the United States who initially downplayed covid in the U.S. besides Donald Trump: Bill DeBlasio, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Cuomo (both of them,) and Gavin Newsom. I could go on but those are the ones that come to the top of my head.

the difference is our past President, as well as the other above mentioned people, "downplayed" it for a few months. Lopez-Obrador is still downplaying it....as the body count rises. There is no real comparison there.

From almost exactly one year ago when Nancy Pelosi and Donald Trump were both downplaying the covid problem but Trump had restricted immigration and was being called a racist for it. It's also when "science" in the person of the Sainted Dr. Fauci said wearing masks would make you sick (he lied .) So much for the infallibility of scientists. This link's for you, and everybody else with a short memory:

Corona virus cases are down in Florida from 20,000 new cases a month a couple of months ago to about 7,000 now in good part due to vaccines that Trump played a big part in fast tracking.

City leaders; mayors, governors, presidents, have a propensity to downplay anything that hurts commerce independent of party. Our governor did the same.

To bring up a subject I posted on this morning; are the 25,000 asylum seekers that Biden is allowing to come in before they are granted asylum going to be tested? Inoculated? Maybe they will get a $600 stimulus check to get them started.
Well, whatever it costs I guess.

Inflation? You call that inflation? This is inflation.

In some countries, the economic plan is written on a chalk board. One year we went fishing in Mexico and the rate was 3,000 pesos to the dollar. The next year surprisingly it was 3 pesos to the dollar. You just cross out zeroes and start over. All those zeros takes more ink.
Let's make them feel at home, how about, oh say, 8 or 9% for starters. Then really get it smokin'

So long as they keep increasing testing at rates which exceed the infection rate, the positivity numbers will continue to reflect a drop. New daily infections are still above 1200, yet the positivity rate has dropped 7.5%?
Many of those people tested have been through the line more than once. Some test weekly and some three times a week.
The numbers are skewed as they blow smoke up everyone's donkey.

talked to a customer a few weeks ago, he is an EMT that is working for a small city nearby and also going to school to go into the medical profession (cannot remember if he was in school to be a Dr or Nurse,,)

he said they had to be tested often, (depending on what their duties were that week, and any symptoms, )

he mentioned he had been tested over a dozen times in the past month,
