What Students Are Saying About Race and Racism in America

I normally can't directly get on the The New York Times page unless I sign up and which I won't, but I can piggy back on someone's link to it which I did and here was the article and one of the reason's I won't sign up to it.

The New York Times, Gee I wonder is anyone who reads this long article gets the same impression I did, that it is nothing but a liberal far left.. one sided article...And of course is very Typical of most of the NYT writings....

The article starts out We invited teenagers to join a moderated discussion about racial equity and justice. Here is a summary of the 2,000-plus thoughtful, passionate comments.

Love to hear any comments on it.....Ray

I'll pull this one quote out from a kid in NC:

As a kid with divorced parents, I have two sides of my family: My mom’s house, where we can have talks about racism and go to protests together; and my dad’s house, where the existence of white privilege is denied completely and even joked about. I’ve seen news, real and fake, about the police cases and the protests, and I’ve come to a few conclusions. The first is that people with privilege and power will do or deny anything to stay in that place, even when they have proof it’s hurting others. The second is that if it were only a few bad apples, those “bad apples” would be fired and arrested — but they’re not. The police system protects racists and always has, as a system born out of catching runaway slaves. Until we dismantle and rebuild every racist system in our country, racism will be a problem, and everyone will have the choice to educate themselves or stay ignorant
The world is a more complex place than kids want to think it is, and so I take their prescriptions for change with a grain of salt--in general. However I would say as general observations, the two that this kid made above, in bold, are on the money. As general observations. People with advantages try to hang onto those advantages, no matter what, and when a problem goes on long enough, any problem, it's usually not because of a few bad apples. Bad apples can be made to go away quick.
