A Master's degree plus a dollar will get you a cup of coffee ...

Is this what education has sunk to, where studying the Beatles
will get you a Masters degree.? There was a time when getting
that degree took a helluva lot of hard work and the degree was
for something that would be of benefit to the populace at large.
Now it's obviously not worth the paper it's printed on.
I'm an old fan of those guys but this is really stupid.
How much dumber can humans get before the ants take over ?

Well DT, that's England for you. There's probably a degree in Kipling offered somewhere, or used to be, when people knew who he was.

      There was an old joke:

      Q: Do you like Kipling?

      A: I don't know; I've never kippled.

The business of the Master's is sort of upsetting for me. I have two master's degrees; one in business administration and the other in civil engineering. The MBA took me 5 years at night school and the M. Eng took 4 years at night school. Somehow a master's degree on the Beetles degrades the whole thing.

Now a master's in advanced basket-weaving for athletes - that might be another story

Always thought the solution to the student debt 'crisis' was simple. The amount of money available to get a degree in 'X' would be based on how many jobs at what salary were offered for grads with that degree. Feminist Angst versus Engineering.

This kind of crap is here too. I'm sure there are courses offered in "How to harness your Whiteness"
or "Do it yourself Transgendering" (complete with free scalpel).

Being sure such courses exist here isn't the same thing as them actually existing.

The English are self-reverential, more than most. But surely we can allow the Liverpudlians this indulgence, yes? The Beatles after all are probably the greatest thing ever to come out of that city. Besides scouse, I mean.

I got my Master's and Specialist's degrees in Education from Georgia State University. Fort Benning contacted with them to set up an adjunct campus on base.

About that time, Georgia passed a law that school teachers had to have Master's degrees and gave them a certain number of years to comply. The Fort Benning classes were suddenly flooded with civilian teachers. The military students were gathered for a briefing.

"Civilian teachers will not be held to the same standard we expect from you. Black teachers only have to show up for class. But YOU will do true graduate level work."

My son spent his first two years of college at University of North Carolina at Asheville. You could get a BA degree in marionette performance, yes a puppet master.

A Nobel award, now that takes some doing.

Got my BS in business/economics w/ second major in Christianity in 1979. Got my Masters of Divinity in 1982. Focus was Hebrew/Greek. Not required. Just wanted to do something I didn't already know how to do. Hebrew has been a little useful. Greek has been supremely useful. Like putting a sharp edge on a good axe ... simply better prepared to do good work Have had any number of folks across the years opine that such educational preparation was unnecessary. Oddly, never had such talk from folks who were producing results in the pastorate. Probably about the same in any other field. JMHO Sincerely. bruce.

I was perusing the math faculty at the Air Force Academy and noticed one Senior Master Sergeant William Baez (Asst Prof) who had earned a PhD in physics. This is an example of the odd ball levels of education that one finds in the enlisted Air Force.
