The number of Neanderthals just grew by 1...

This time he’s a dem. I wonder if the new “N” word will be applied to him by the occupant of the White House.
..of those men who have overturned the liberties of republics, the greatest number have begun their career by paying an fawning court to the people; commencing demagogues, and ending tyrants. -Alexander Hamilton , The Federalist Papers

Don't denigrate our ancestor Neanderthals. Do you know a democrat
or you maybe who could be dumped naked in a hostile environment and
survive ? Could you start a fire ? Those guys survived for thousands of
years. They certainly have my respect.
So, don't insult them by comparing them with democrats.

read a good article a few nights ago about how the Cro Mags and Neanderthal's co mingles back in the day , and the results,

some supposition in there, but a lot of good science too,

The debate as to whether Neanderthals were a distinct species or a different race is on going and constantly in flux. 50 years ago when I was in college and studying a bit of anthropology the consensus was that Neanderthals were an extinct race, now its swung back a the other way....for now. One way or the other that there was interbreeding and that modern humans are at least a bit of a mix is generally agreed to. One way or another they are considered a branch of Homo Sapiens (Homo Sapiens Neandertalinses.) Intellectually there wasn't much difference between them and us if any. For some reason we don't really know they vanished 30-40 thousand years ago. One popular (and plausible) theory is they just didn't adapt well to the end of the ice ages, in other words,, global warming got them.

the article , IIRC, mentioned only that the avg Euro may have up to ~6% Neanderthal DNA, most were considerably less

a lot about potential mating habits, but a lot of interesting stuff too

Scientists know a surprising amount about the titillating episode in human history when our species got together, including whether we kissed and the nature of their sexual organs.

There are a lot of ideas about the way these people lived. I once heard an hypothesis that Neanderthal men and women lived in separate groups with different lifestyles. The idea was the women were the gatherers, the men the hunters and they got together periodically to swap food and dna. I found that one a bit far fetched. Most folks try to make Neanderthals look as much like "Alley Oop" as possible but reconstructions of skulls show a lot of variation in appearance. This a reconstruction of a young woman.

If there was interbreeding, then obviously we are the same species (race). The ability to interbreed and produce fertile offspring is the signature trait of specie.
