Arresting business owners for wanting to do business, citing
people in parks for not wearing masks. The list goes on.
Crime is rampant but enforcing mask wearing seems more important.
There are exceptions of course, but more and more Police Depts
are doing the bidding of the cancel culture and the democrat
leftists who are one and the same. Blindly following orders
from a totalitarian government is certainly not what Robert Peel
had in mind.

There's such a thing as discretion. Why arrest a businessman when a warning would have sufficed ?

The police have been politically handcuffed over the years. Street smarts and judgment calls on scene are no longer tolerated.
If they make an arrest they're held to a higher standard than before to avoid civil liability. If they make one bad judgment call like letting someone slide, they are responsible if that person goes on to commit a crime.
That's only one of the scenarios which play out on a daily basis.
As far as mask warnings go, how many warnings have been given already? Its gotten to the point where people violate law and public safety protocol because a warning is as bad as it gets.
Now people resist anything more often than before.

Think back to about how many cops were shot when they had to be fired upon first.
People didn't surrender nicely yet billy clubs were abolished is some departments. Less than lethal tasers were deployed to help sidestep gunfights. Remember all those "Don't gaze me" protests.
Cops were issued bulletproof vests because there became a definite need. Bad guys shoot more now because they know getting a bullet in the vest is like getting whalloped with a baseball bat.

Granted, due to manpower shortages and filling ethnic hiring requirements, more came through academy and onto the streets than should have been. That applies to teachers too, along with postal employees and....
Bottom line is even though the good ones are disgusted they climb back into the trenches on a daily basis. Its easy to give up on respect for the departments as a whole, but there are still enough good guys out there because they're trying to do the best they can with the load of crap they've been handed.

Street smarts and sound judgment are probably the best weapon at their disposal. Too bad they aren't allowed to use it the way they should.
