Omaha police officer shot four times by a shoplifter

Sorry but being an ex police officer these incidents always piss me off...No reason for the AH to shoot the officer just over a shop lifting charge.. Way in the back of my mind I guess I always wondered if I would return home that day...

Omaha police officer shot in the face by 'shoplifter, 21, who was stuffing a pack of T-shirts into his backpack' at a JC Penney - as 4-year veteran of force now listed in stable condition

Kenya Lamont Jenkins Jr., 21, was arrested after a high-speed chase and charged with attempted murder and the use of a weapon to commit a felony

Jenkins allegedly shot Officer Jeffrey Wittstruck four times when he was caught stuffing a package of T-shirts into his backpack at the Westroads Mall in Omaha

Wittstruck had been dispatched to JC Penney at 3.27pm on Friday after Jenkins was detained by store security

The suspect shot the officer when he arrived to the security office and tried to arrest him; Jenkins then led officers on a high-speed chase

Glad the cop survived. Lots of guns out there make policing dangerous work. Still a bullet to the face area, even glancing, man that's not good.

Is there ever a good reason to shoot a cop? Best case scenario is unintentionally, in a no-knock raid, defending one's domicile. Otherwise, no.

Is there ever a good reason for cops to drop unarmed civilians by mistake? This is where Ray and I disagree.

Charges will most likely be knocked down after Burn Loot Murder comes to the aid of the accused actor.

Yes, and the perp will be bragging in prison about how he almost "offed" a cop.

I like the claim that "lots of guns out there" is the problem.

Kind of saying that we have so much obesity because there are "lots of spoons out there."

Not to mention knives and forks! Ever notice what type of people are causing most of the crime?

                Ever notice how they vote?

If Democrats would stop killing people, the homicide rate would drop by 80%.

Going to prison for some is a point of pride. It's just natural. He'll have a good time.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.

that's his semi annual for justification for gun control,

re the shoplifting, sometimes the shoplifter thinks he/she has a lot to loose,

Va has a 3 strikes law, so if they have been convicted of a non felony crime 2 times already, they automatically become a felon on the 3rd,
some have other warrants out and face time if caught

                    others are just plain stupid,

I've had a pile of them arrested, and spent my fair share of time in court over it

Not gonna redirect the thread away from cops getting shot at on the job, because like you Ray that bothers me a bunch. For the cops, and also for the public.

Amen. In some places everyone has a gun, and no one gets shot. In other places guns are "controlled" and there's plenty of homicide.

It's an unfortunate occupational law enforcement hazard. The person who moves first almost always shoots first and the person who moves first is seldom the cop.

A major reason is petty criminals aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer. They will panic and then do something that will result in them doing really hard time or possible death penalties in some states. A lot of crimes are incorrectly called "sense-less. This actually is sense-less because its just a dumb move by the crook who is looking at a charge of Attempted Capital Murder of a Police Officer in a state with really tough sentencing policies.

                              The point is,

The easier it is for criminals to have guns (notice I said the "c" word, criminals),

the more hair trigger the police will be,

and the greater the likelihood of fatal police mistakes upon the population at large.

When I was a kid, learning this stuff, "gun rights" weren't for criminals like they are today.

                              Times change, I guess.
