There should be penalties for passing illegal laws ...

In this case State law forbade cities/municipalities from passing
gun bans which ignored State Law, but they did it anyway, maybe
hoping that nobody would notice, This flagrant disregard happens
all too often, dreamed up by anti-gun politicians with never any
kind of ramification. Apparently, politicians are above the law.

Va had a problem with localities passing all kinds of crazy (and not effective stuff) then got smart and passed a law that said the only gun laws that will pass must go thru the General Assembly,

so if a locality decided to pass something, it had to submit a bill to the state house,

    rarely went thru,

however , our Gov, and the house and senate , are all D now and that law got struck last year,
some restrictions still left, but the locals are now passing whatever they can,

makes it hard for the avg citizen to travel or pass thru an area that they may be , or may not be, breaking a law in,

and the crime stats actually went up (for other reasons) not down as they expected

The people passing Unconstitutional laws face no liability.

Sure all the polls want to remove qualified immunity form police officers these days. Make the officer individually liable for every suit that comes along whether or not it has merit.

In the cases Dtag mentions some politician over reaches and basically says "You dont like it? Take me to court"

We than have to spend our money to retain our rights.

The politician uses tax money to violate our rights.

If we win in court and get awarded our rights back and damages again tax money is used to pay the damages.

The individual pol is never personally liable.

      They should be.

They can't take HIM to court -- only the government under which the unconstitutional law was passed. The people have to sue to get their rights -- and pay $$$$$. The politicians don't have to pay a penny.
