Never heard of her? Neither had I until yesterday. It seems this young black woman was a rising star in the journalism business and had just been named Editor in Chief of Teen Vogue. Note I said "was."

Then it hit the fan. The first report I heard was she had been fired because of "racist and homophobic" social media comments made when she was 17 years old. Black woman, who could the subject of these posts be . Well, since prejudices against Jews, and Asians as well as Homosexuals run deep in the black community I figured her sins had to be comments about one or more of these three groups that were "derogatory." Homosexuals were mentioned in the reports so I figured the race part had to be Jews or Asians. I checked it out today and sure 'nuff; The offending race internet stuff pertained to Asians.

A couple of things came to mind; first black people are no longer fully immune to woke nuttiness. Second, this is another example of inability (unwillingness?) of the hard core socialists that have taken over the left to forgive a transgression by a person no matter how long ago, how young the person was at the time, or how "pure" the individual has been since. Conform to the ever changing orthodoxy of the left or be destroyed. It smacks of Bolshevism.

I guess the past year has put Asians on the receiving end much moreso than in the past, and enough so as to cause a backlash. Hmm, maybe some prominent public figure was dabbling in anti-Asian messaging and it trickled down into the population or something. I've heard that some people are very skilled at stimulating the latent prejudices that exist in people, that they're mostly able to keep under wraps as part of getting along with other in this world. But then some powerful figure does it and others go "hey that's okay to do now? alright then".

But yes Art I agree that the backlash is as unreasoned as the climate that prompted it in the first place.

used to be a lot of Asian markets in black neighborhoods,
a lot of Blacks dislike the business practices and prices, but benefit from those as well (shoplifters, for example, will sell stolen goods to the Asian markets, and those markets will process EBT cards for goods in trade for alcohol and other non EBT items)

most now are starting to if not already been replaced by Indian\Pakistani shops

Dianne Feinstein Elementary School in San Francisco is being re named because 37 years ago when Feinstein was mayor she replaced a damaged Confederate Flag that was in a flag display on city property. Yup, one step out of orthodoxy and an almost half century career as one of the most reliably left wing politicians in the country is no longer acceptable. Drew Brees said something that I didn't think that controversial about standing for the National Anthem and he was bludgeoned into submission making several apologies each more groveling than the last. We have internet "book burning," people with the 'wrong" ideas, not evil just "wrong" are banished from social media if they have any position of public recognition at all. Since most of this stuff is driven by private entities there is little that can be done about it except possibly invoking the Smoot - Hawley anti trust laws but no one has seen fit to try that one yet.

What will help bring about change is people like Brees who haven't done anything wrong but say something that got under the skin of somebody in a protected class, refusing to apologize or back down. I know its easier said than done, nobody wants to be an outcast among their working peers, but sometimes you have to grow a spine.

I don't see the problem -- rectums like that are nobody's peers. No one should care what the National Nanny says.

Leftists are very unforgiving of past sins and transgressions, Stalin forced his enemies to make groveling and often absurd confessions, Mao forced people to make self criticisms. If that girl made anti-homosexual remarks she violated the "racist-sexist-homophobic" mantra.
There was a black girl at the prestigious Lawrenceville School who had to step down as an editor of the school newspaper after making anti-white remarks.
If you don't believe in freedom of speech and freedom of expression-except for certain privileged groups.....they let that genie out of the bottle, now they can't get him back in.
