Insurance Companies, Reaping Benefits from Protests

Insurance Companies, Reaping Benefits from Protests

    An interesting perspective.....

"Insurance Companies, Reaping Benefits from Protests, Get in Line with Black Lives Matter

The country's largest insurance companies stand to benefit from the chaos they're praising"

"It's never good for insurers to have to pay out claims, Lehmann told the Free Beacon, but it is good for them if businesses are worried about civil unrest. "Higher uncertainty makes more people want to buy coverage," he said, "and makes them willing to pay more for coverage."

Following the death of George Floyd, the world's largest insurance companies spoke up in favor of Black Lives Matter. Even as they were paying out unprecedented claims due to the destruction caused by Black Lives Matter protesters and those seizing their mantle, the companies issued statements and coughed up donations to support the movement.

Not just a BLM thing. Insurance company game plan to recoup from hurricanes, tornados, brush/forest fires, floods, volcanic eruptions, hail storms, soccer fan celebrations.....

Insurance on a rental went up over 30% thanks to those a-holes. And it is not in area with civil problems.

Premiums are State regulated. The companies have to justify the amount of increase. Companies also have to remain competitive if they want to stay in business.
Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

The problem is that state regulation is for the benefit of the companies, not the customers. Regulation tends to shut out competition.

On the plus side for the average person, the regulations make it more difficult for fly-by-night upstarts and front company scams to run amok.
One of those cure hurts but doesn't kill type situations.

So how come we don't have state fast food regulators, state auto dealer regulators, state retail regulators, and so on?

I don't have a direct reply for that. I do know that in my area there are state, county, municipal regs where any agency involved at any level has a finger in the pie.
You didn't think Illinois won the corruption trophy for nothing' did you?

                    in VA,
                    Dept of Agriculture,

health and sanitation inspectors for food retailers
health and sanitation inspectors for restaurants, (deli's in gro stores are inspected by each)
weights and measures inspectors for anything weighed on a scale or run thru a pump
sell meat, as in raw, then the feds send inspectors around at least once a year to look at where you get your meat from, is it inspected, and take samples of the ground beef sometimes

and the milk board regulates milk production and pricing,

feds and state regulate WIC and EBT (inventory levels, pricing etc)

lots of state regs and oversite for car dealers, and inspections too,

                    SCC fees
                    County or city licensing fees

and I know I am forgetting

Health and sanitation is not the same thing as regulating an insurance company. No one claims someone got food poisoning from an insurance policy!!
