BLM demonstrators storm house chamber over Republican-backed anti-protest bill

Video shows the group in the Oklahoma house chamber chanting 'no justice no peace' and 'Black Lives Matter'. But others heckled legislators, with one screaming 'you are a f--king disgrace to the whole country!'

The bill also grants a motorist criminal and civil immunity if they kill or injure someone while fleeing from a riot.

"BLM demonstrators storm Oklahoma house chamber over Republican-backed anti-protest bill to grant immunity to motorists who kill or injure rioters

More than two dozen protesters entered the Oklahoma House of Representatives chamber during a session on Wednesday

They demonstrated against bills that have moved through House and Senate
One of the bills the group showed up to demonstrate against was a Republican-backed anti-protest bill that Gov. Kevin Stitt signed Wednesday"

The anti-protest bill is aimed at cracking down on protests by granting immunity to motorists who kill or injure rioters

Right... Oklahoma wants to make it legal to run over protestors with your pickup truck.

Better then being pulled from your vehicle and beaten to death! I need to put a bigger brush guard on my F-150 and possibly a lift kit as well.

so if the folks in the Capitol on the 6th of January shouted all live mattered etc etc then it would not have been an insurrection/end of times, right????,,

No clue what you're on about there, Lyman, but back to the OP,

One has to wonder what has the Oklahoma GOP so twitchy that they have decided to create an exception in their homicide laws that's big enough to drive a truck through (pun intended). They are passing a law to make what happened in Charlottesville legal in OK. Which some people intelligently think is NOT OK.

Because as sure as the sun rises in the east, if Oklahoma makes it legal to bring the pain to protestors with the grill of a vehicle, some old boys are going to do just that.

Anyone remember Reginald Denny. Pulled from his truck and slammed in the head with a brick. Just shouldn't have been there?

              That's an over simplification.

The law makes a person legally blameless if that individual (1) is fleeing a riot in a vehicle and (2) feels threatened with death or serious bodily injury, and (3) accidentally strikes a rioter with his vehicle. If the actor deliberately runs into people with a vehicle he is legally culpable.

I notice you mentioned pick up truck and not chevy volt.

Art, clearly there is more than enough grey in that law for any competent defense attorney to work with, and moreover all of the above mitigating factors are already available to a district attorney to make a decision NOT to charge.

So the net effect of the law is what exactly?

Answer: make it easier to drive through a crowd of protestors and get away with it!

You make a good point about vehicle type though, and I wonder if drivers of Nissan Leafs, Teslas, Priuses, etc. will not be covered by the law. And Hummers of course given double immunity.

Fields was convicted because Virginia doesn't have the new OK law on the books. With that new law, any competent defense attorney can claim the driver stomped on the gas out of fear, and hence under the law...not guilty!

I see nothing wrong in using a vehicle in self defense when its quicker than making use of a legally carried firearm. I see nothing wrong in using a table lamp or a shovel for the same reason either.
