Shoplifter kills security guard and wounds a police officer

'I'm shot!': Moment cop is shot by shoplifter, 18, before thief is killed in hail of gunfire
Travon Chadwell, 18, was killed in a shootout with Chicago police on March 25

Officers were called to a Home Depot in Brighton Park where Chadwell was suspected of shoplifting

Authorities said Chadwell had shot security guard Kevin Lockett in the head before fleeing the scene

Bodycam footage shows the moment an officer encounters the teen in a nearby neighborhood and is immediately shot

The cop is seen collapsing to the ground, yelling: 'I'm shot! I'm shot!'

Another graphic clip shows the moment officers shoot Chadwell dead

He was not immediately shot. Even after shooting the cop in the alley they gave him ample time to surrender after he was holed up.
He chose to stand his ground and shoot it out. A single police officer was able to flank him and take a shot over a fence.

Thieves have only one fear and that is getting caught! When I did my groups with my ex-cons I asked this very question and that fear of getting caught was the universal answer. Punishment is not a deterrent unless it is long term say 20 years. Today at church we discovered another converter stolen from one of our buses. We have also had a B&E where we had stolen a great deal of electronic equipment. As we have money we are increasing our security equipment and it is sad that we have to do this. We are just a small country church and do what we can for the community including a jail outreach of 30 years duration.

actually surprised Home Despot allowed the guard to go out in the lot,

most corporate places don't want you to do anything aggressive towards a shoplifter

engage, (as in be nice, say hello, can I help you etc) and then disengage if there is even a hint of aggression,
