Supreme Court to Hear New York Concealed Carry Case

The Supreme Court has decided to hear a case on concealed carry of a firearm outside of a person's residence in New York City. In New York a person must show a need to carry a firearm to get a license. In the past permits were given to people who carried large sums of cash or who worked in business that had high value merchandise. If the circumstance that caused a license to be changed the license was usually revoked. Now the circumstances are so restrictive that basically only two classes of people in NYC can carry; celebrities like Whoopie Goldberg and Robert DeNiro both of whom have permits to carry in NYC and retired cops.

The court will determine if an average Joe (or Josie) in NYC should be able to get a "permit."

There are seven states that still have highly restrictive laws on granting carry permits to civilians. The outcome of this case will affect them all.

Had a friend, many years ago, who was a retired doctor from NYC. He tried and tried to get a permit. Finally he hit on a good reason "I carry narcotics in my medical bag."

I have read this is being presented as a 'possession outside of the home' case as opposed to 'concealed carry'. Maybe a broader opinion. In any case I want to see how Roberts flips.

On this one Roberts could vote "wrong" and our side could still win 5-4. It's why Coney-Barret's appointment was such a big deal and why the Dems want to pack the court.

New York City already punted on a lot of the keep the gun in your house part so this may decide more than just that.
