high school buddy was a baker in a downtown bakery,

Shockoe Bottom area, very old historical area, and flooded often,

    3-4 blocks from the river,

    Rats at big as cats,

he bought a Crosman pump up BB/Pellet pistol, and would take his break at daybreak, go out on the loading dock, and kill a dozen or so each day that were wandering around the dock area and dumpster (they apparently loved the dough )

never made a dent in the population

      That's a whopper

BB gun barely puts a dent in a big rat

I have a Sheridan air gun, which has considerably more pop than a bb gun, and accurate too.

Has been used on feral cats, and anything short of a head shot does not lead to a quick kill.

        re read what I posted,

the Crosman pump up BB/Pellet pistol,

I think the model # is 1377, 10 pumps and rat dead,

esp across a loading dock, (inside 25 yrds)

and now you are the rat killing expert,,, and insulting too,
        hmm,,,,,,

No need to be thin-skinned just because someone thinks the kill numbers are inflated. Even you can agree they probably are.

Nobody is saying he didn't kill any rats.

All Chicago needs to do is increase the Thai population. Large enough to hold an annual drive. Then lift some of the restrictions on street food vendors.
But, nobody from Thailand is crazy enough to move through the areas with the serious rat problems.

Cats are known to eat the city's rat poison. And a feral cat might not wish to confront rats the size of racoons. Especially when outnumbered.
Falcons to control pigeons worked to an extent. Cats for rats is just pissin into the wind. Money down the drain. City has a substantial feral cat population already. So, where did Animal Control get all those cats in the first place?
Publicity stunt and the cost didn't come from campaign contributions. Here comes another tax increase on bottled water and grocery bags!

I agree with JB White here.

That said, I'd just maybe find it entertaining to watch the release of 1,000 feral cats......... from within a Bradley, maybe an Abrams! LOL!

I bet all the local SPCA and shelters have run out of cats,

isn't there a group in the UK that rent out Terriers to do exactly what they want done?

                yep, here we go
