Mayor of St. Louis claims 'more cops do not prevent crimes

Crime's up so lets reduce the police budget! Makes sense....Lol

Mayor of St. Louis Tishaura Jones- the murder capital of America - claims 'more cops do not prevent crime' after cutting $4million from department's budget and pledging to close a prison

Tishaura Jones became first-ever black woman to become St. Louis mayor

The Democrat ran on progressive platform which includes defunding police

Last month, Jones approved plan to slash $4million from police budget
She also eliminated 98 officer vacancies and closed down a city jail

Last year, St. Louis saw its murder rate soar to highest since 1970

The mayor of St. Louis says having more cops won't prevent crime, and she's used her first month in office to introduce controversial reforms including defunding the police.

It is the highest murder rate reported in the city since 1993, when 69 people per 100,000 residents were killed.

Depends on the crime don't it?

Robberies, I would think police presence makes a difference.

      Domestic violence, not so much.

Drunk driving? Don't know. Mostly citizens call that one in right?

Police presence would probably prevent all three of them from happening...

Actually, GOOD policing does prevent crimes -- look at how successful Broken Window policing was under Giuliani

Project Exile helped significantly with gun crime

We KNOW how to dramatically cut violent crime -- but it's Politically Incorrect to do it.

You're pointing out the debate over whether or not the collateral damage associated with that kind of policing is too high a price to pay.

In some areas you'd need a cop for every ten people. Crime is what they do. So a few more cops doesn't help.

Except that it does help -- we've mentioned Broken Window policing and Project Exile, two highly successful policing programs.

I know they worked. But do they still used those techniques? Giuliani reduced crime but profiled people. He later apologized for being so awful. Sheriff Joe rounded up hundreds of illegals but it wasn't very nice so he lost his job.

that's exactly my point -- we KNOW how to cut crime dramatically, but lack the political will. It's better to sacrifice thousands of lives each year than to implement proper police procedures.

Murder will only increase in the major cities as the weather heats up and society continues to decline. Couple with that the possibility of a strike against our electrical grid will only embolden the thieves in the cities. Sure glad that I don't live near a large city!

And I'm glad I have a whole-house backup propane generator.

Yea, it is nice isn't it!!! I am going back tomorrow to look @ a small shed to house our generator. Our fuel people will then install a 100 lb [largest that can be put by the shed] and I can still use the 20lbers with it. In a shed the generator is more secure from the elements/thieves and I can do any maintaince out of the weather. I will take the wheels off and chain to "eye" bolts to the frame. This thing weighs in @ 200 lbs and it is a heck of a thing to move with wheels. I can't imagine without!
The exhaust will be vented out and I plan on putting a lower and upper vent openings. A box fan will be used to move the heat out of the upper louvered area.
