In America, police DO NOT have a duty to protect the individual and that is from the Supreme Court about 30 years ago.

The SCOTUS decision said "generally" the police do not have an obligation to protect you.

They do if you are in "imminent Danger", if they accept the duty to do something, or when police
deny you protection based upon your race or some related civil rights violation.
