The Taliban is the Pakis long-term project to control Afghanistan by keeping it dysfunctional. That way the Indians can't get in there and dominate commercially. The place is a treasure-house of mineral wealth but the way things are right now there is no way to get at it. What the Pakis would think of the Chinese doing the same, I don't know.

I've read elsewhere that the Chinese are already there, and have been for a while,

The only way to fix afghanistan would be to level it and repopulate the area and that's not going to happen .

That's kind of what I think. Let the Taliban kill everyone, the country falls to pieces, they all starve(don't feed them) and that takes care of that.
Of course the problem is, there are other countries nearby with people just like them.
