Atlanta suburb wants to secede from crime-ridden Georgia city

Fatal shooting in wealthy Atlanta suburb of Buckhead reignites plan to secede from crime-ridden Georgia city as murders soar by 33% in a year

A fatal shooting in an upscale Atlanta neighborhood has rattled the community to the point where they are looking to secede from the city.

Bill White, the CEO of the Buckhead City Committee, wants the area separated from Atlanta entirely in an effort to create their own police department

'We are fed up with this,' White said in response to a shooting near a Buckhead lounge that left one dead on Saturday

'Atlanta police are very busy right now. They're under-resourced, they're understaffed'
White states that the neighborhood's bid to become a city will need to pass the Georgia Assemble
The bid will be included on the upcoming Nov. 2022 ballot, according to Fox News

Their taxes will go up but maybe they don't care.

I know a little about Atlanta and Buckhead, which is not a suburb, it's just a high rent part of Atlanta just north of downtown. Buckhead is one of the most "Toney" parts of Atlanta and I promise that Taxes are not a matter of greatest interest for most those folks.

There is a similar situation in Houston with enclaved cities like "The Villages" and Bellaire. You don't need to see the change in the color of street signs from green to red to know You're in Bellaire for example. You can tell immediately from the instant change from awful roads to very good roads. If those cities pay higher taxes than residents of Houston it probably isn't much due to more efficient government. The way things are would I prefer to live in Hedwig Village than the nicer parts of Houston.

Living in "Occupied Kingwood" I wish Texas allowed the kind of secession Buckhead is trying to achieve but alas we don't have that option. Speaking of Kingwood. When we were annexed by the City of Houston our overall taxes went up, not down with no corresponding increase in services.

Of course they went up -- you have to pay for all the services needed by those who do not work.
