You do of course realize they're Muslims and hardly worth a tear from anyone here right ? Not to mention we didn't actually go there to help them, we invaded because we were told they harbored our enemies that had done us harm . You know ... kind of like Iraq where we invaded an enemy nation and three months later it was renamed "Operation Iraqi Freedom" .... like we wanted be good guys or something.

As for names being "earned", that's a lousy attitude in my opinion, that assigns all responsibility to the target, not the user.

I have very mixed feelings. Canada lost 150 soldiers in Afghanistan out of our very small military - a huge impact really and we lost them fighting for a country that was so corrupt that their own soldiers deserted because their generals had stolen their pay. A pointed comment in the media the other day made the point that if their army was not willing to fight for their country, why in hell should we send our troops to fight and die for it. There is not a country in the world that functions properly if the government and the officials are corrupt. Nobody of course was prepared to take the drastic action necessary and that would have been to put some of the corrupt senior officials against a wall and let the soldiers whose pay was stolen shoot them.

On the other hand, our government has recognized that the people who helped us (interpreters etc.) would be taken care of if possible. The target is to bring 20,000 of them (including families) to Canada so at least they won't be executed by the Taliban

Understand, Afghanistan is the perfect breeding and training ground for terrorism. It will be a running sore for generations.
