You're right -- although the Montagnards were fond of monkey. To keep a wounded monkey from running off, they would cut a slice in a crossbow arrow and put a bit of cloth in it. When the arrow went through a monkey, the cloth would stick out the entrance hole. The monkey, thinking it had come out of him would try to poke it back in until he collapsed.
