1 billion thats just the hand shake

The assistant secretary of the UN said that to feed all the poor nations starving from climate change it will take 1 trillion dollars. So half the whole world is just a huge game preserve that we can take care of.

Or we can set up a shuttle so 100K midgit Peruvians can get to Texas(they don't look like they eat too much). Or line up some unused cruise ships and shuttle a 100K Haitians to Florida. How about sending some to Nice France. Sounds like a friendly place. Trillion: you hear that number a lot these days.

I didn't see the one trillion number in the Catholic Charities article in the OP, but feeding starving people does cost a lot of money.

However I heard an interesting climate change perspective from a fellow this morning, afraid I don't recall his name. He said while the earth is warming up a bit its far from a catastrophe. In fact only about 10% as many people die from natural calamities as did 100 years ago. I had heard and verified that figure previously.

The real problems exists outside of Europe and North America. One side is obvious, some new industrial power houses; the Russians, Chinese, Indians and others refuse to cooperate, hell the Chinese, Russians, Brazilians and Turks didn't even show up at the summit, that alone shows the future level of their non cooperation. The reason being they won't allow their people to slide back into squalor and poverty. The ChiComs right now are building around 50 coal fired plants and there isn't a darn thing we can do about it. On the other end, poor nations cannot possibly comply with the climate mandates, heck, most of the people in some of these countries are still burning wood and charcoal. According to this fellow, and I believe it, the government of Ghana issued a statement saying essentially the same, According to these folks, trying to meet some mandated limit on carbon emissions would not only keep his country in grinding poverty but make it worse. They did say that to mitigate the pain for Ghana alone would indeed cost the one trillion dollars mentioned in the OP over time.

Throw a dart at a world map and check out what the population was one hundred years ago at that spot. That is the sustainable population. We have over fed the world since the 40s and there is no way third world nations can feed themselves.

That was Amina Jane Mohammed UN assistant secretary-general who mentioned a trillion on PBS this morning. I think barretcreek is on the right track. We feed more and more people and they make more and more people. Some how it just isn't going to fix the problem.

Unfortunately this is basically correct. Modern agriculture has proven Malthus wrong up to this point, but there is no real solution to the "climate problem" without dealing with the "population problem."

News was showing people in Madagascar nearing starvation. One thing that stood out was the unbelievable number of children under the age of six. As in other starving countries they are raising more children than they can possibly feed under any conditions.

Malthusian economics: Food is harder to produce than people. A small increase in the food supply
will spur a much larger increase in the population. Further increases in food supply only get even
larger population grown. The inevitable result is famine.

If a company is losing money on every gadget they make they might "make it up in volume" if the gadget eventually catches on. Something nice and shiny. Starving people? We've seen one.

Why don't we concentrate on helping them feed themselves?

Some regions are exceeding carrying capacity and get their food elsewhere.

You're a bit hamstrung on this topic given that population control disagrees with your religious beliefs.

And let's not forget that the poor WILL avail themselves of that particular form of entertainment.

Funny thing about those news programs, the adults don't seem to be suffering from malnutrition, just the children.
