    Would they be so stupid...

Would DoJ be dumb enough to try to charge Rittenhouse with a civil rights violation for defending himself? Strikes me that's been one of standard work around of the Feds when they don't get their way.

Probably not, but I wouldn't take it off the table either.

The use of civil rights laws to come in behind juries that misuse jury nullification goes back to the last days of Jim Crow. A prime example was the murder of Emmit Till, a 14 year old boy who was killed for allegedly flirting with a white woman. After the trial, in which they were acquitted, one of Till's killer's gave an interview to William Bradford Huie about how they had kidnapped young Till and murdered him. Because of this and other cases congress attached criminal penalties under the Civil Rights laws to crimes of violence like the Till case. I understand why it was done but the law goes through a lot of loops and twists to get around the Constitutional prohibition against "double jeopardy." The law has been abused and so has the Patriot Act (don't get me started on that one.)

I think a raft of defamation law suits by the Rittenhouse team against news outlets and some politicians is more likely than a civil rights case against Rittenhouse.
