New task force to RENAME federal lands deemed to have racist names

US will now establish woke task force to RENAME any federal lands deemed to have racist names like Squaw Peak in Utah and Chinaman's Gulch in Colorado

The plan was announced by Interior Secretary Deb Haaland on Friday

It will create a task force that will consult the public and local governments

There are 600 federal land units with the name 'squaw,' used for a Native female

Other terms in federal land names include 'negro,' 'wetback' and 'redskin'

Personally I see no reason for me to insist that they keep using that word to name geographic features.

And somewhere if there's Goober Mountain or Kraut River, and people want that name changed also to something less pejorative, then sure, why not.

After the Revolution many place names were changed to honor Bolshevik heroes, when they fell from grace the names were changed again.Khruschev started De-Stalinization, everything named for him was changed, when Communism collapsed many places got their pre-Revolution names back.
