    Video and the Law

Kyle Rittenhouse was acquitted of murder in Kenosha Wisconsin largely because of videos taken during the Kenosha riots.

The McMichaels and Roddy Bryan were convicted of murder today in Glynn County Georgia mostly on the basis of video taken by Bryan.

It's everywhere. One of the first things the police do after a serious crime is check the video security systems of all the houses in the area, then there are all of the videos from personal devices like phones. Its hard to escape the all seeing eye of digital video almost anywhere you go.

And that's why you can't just shoot rioters.
If I should die before I wake...great,a little more sleep.

What's interesting to me about the two cases is how in the end, the juries disagreed with the initial reactions of law enforcement. In Wisconsin, quick to file charges. In Georgia, the opposite.

Two videos and two appropriate legal outcomes. Sadly Kyle will have to deal with an onslaught of civil lawsuits for many years.

In some states a successful self defense claim, as in the case of Rittenhouse, immunizes the person from civil liability. Wisconsin is not one of them so Rittenhouse could, in theory be sued for wrongful death and injury. The Rittenhouse camp is gearing up to file libel, slander and defamation law suits against a bunch of individuals and organizations in the main stream media and, possibly politics including Biden. Tammy Bruce joked that Nick Sandmann and Kyle Rittenhouse are going to share custody of CNN (Sandmann won big settlements estimated at tens of millions of dollars in lawsuits against numerous media outlets including CNN.)
