China: too many people, too little food ...

This more than anything else could stick a wrench in her wheel.
Her Achilles heel so to speak. She has an acute shortage of arable
land, probably because with so many people there isn't a square foot
without someone standing on it. China imports an enormous amount
of the food she needs from us, Australia, New Zealand, France and
especially Brazil, all of whom are more friendly to us rather than China.
So if China becomes really hostile she may lose her imports. Her last
famine cost thirty million lives - I doubt she'd want another, but with a
population of one and a half billion, what's a few million ? What allies
of hers could help out ? I doubt Russia has enough food to spare,
especially in the quantity China would need. Would she risk it over Taiwan ?
    Just a thought.

        Retaliation.

Their short run advantage is a strong nationalist sentiment that China is disrespected.
