Yes it sucks but Pakistan via the Taliban spent 20 years making sure our mission couldn't succeed so guess what we redefined the mission, declared victory and came home.

All those A-hole countries next to Afghanistan wanted us out of there so it's on them to get the food trucks rolling or deal with the refugees.

Behind paywall or one has to be clever with a phone browser and cache, but the article says:

The mullahs in Afghanistan are importing young backs, arms and legs from Pakistan to rule the country.

Let the Pakis feed Afghanistan then.

If Pakistan didn't have the mushrooms we could let it go completely to hell but they do so we can't. But we can certainly let them feel the burden of their own decisions as much as possible.

There is so much that is laughable in that that it's hard to count. Military and fighters mentioned about twenty times. "oh crap, the Americans left, now what do we do?" Call for more fighters. Yeah, that's the solution. Dumb as dumb can get. Now there will be five factions fighting...each other. I guess they could somehow get it together and make it work. Something about pigs and flight.

Kind of puts the "nation builders" running the show around here 20 years ago in a bad light, doesn't it? Not everyone wants to do it like us, or is capable of it even if they wanted. Hell, even we're having trouble doing it like we used to.

                  9/11 was 20 years ago.

We did okay with Japan, S. Korea, Germany, Canada (LOL). Spotty in Latin America, zero to show for it in SW/S/SE Asia.

well, it took a 2nd time to get Germany right, , the first attempt caused the 2nd,

                    Japan, yes,
Italy, yes, but before the Euro,, they had issues with $$,
S Korea, how much of that was just us?

                    meanwhile,
                    Iran
                    Iraq
most of the rest of the middle east
                    Afgan,,
short forays into Africa, but that was more corporations than gov't??
Latin America,, we stumbled a bit there,

so the aboves are not really, or nopes?

Phillipines, maybe a draw? but good influences?

                    SE Asia,, um, no,

we don't really have a good track record, and it got worse when we partnered with England,,,,

Because we went home instead of staying the course. After WWII, we stayed -- in fact, we still have troops in Germany,

I've thought about this now we hold their money in our banks so let's be fair , send them all the food they can eat , gas for the cars what ever else they desire and deduct it from their account at a fair market price and no free shipping . That's how it works for me I pay for everything I want .

Added: German and Japan were very hierarchical societies. FDR has been criticized through the years, mostly by Axis apologists, for demanding unconditional surrender. But post-war it was by taking over at the very top that occupation forces were able to make those hierarchies work in a positive direction. FDR was right about so much, it's a shame his health took him.
